Last month I had the awesome pleasure of hosting a special version of my Secret Recipe Workshop in Dallas. I surprised my students with make overs by Elisa Griffith and then we took headshots of each student. The purpose of the head shots were so that my students could leave and feel motivated, excited and enthusiastic about marketing their best assets (themselves)!
My hopes were that they used their headshots to boost their confidence and that when they were all dressed up they could see how amazing they felt. Because after all when you look good, you typically feel good, and that creates a productive mood.
Most of us walk through life putting everyone before ourselves. Someone once told me.. “You know you are a mom when your food is always cold”. And it made perfect sense because it was reflective of my life. As a wife, mom, business owner, daughter, friend there’s always so much going on that I rarely have time for myself. But in order to be productive I have to figure out a way to put forth the best version of me.
Over the years, I have worked on myself. I have always struggled with my weight, my work obsession, and finding balance. I took notes every time I felt really good, and days when I felt my worst. There’s always a lesson to be learned when you are on a mission to improve. Its easy to overlook the little things that can make a huge difference in our lives. Something as simple a pretty lip color can be a total game changer. And let me tell you how.
When I teach face painting, when I lecture on business, and when I want to make a statement I apply my favorite lip color by Nars called Funny face. It is a bright fuchsia. 
NOT a color I would typically wear. If you know me personally you know I am a lipstick/ gloss hoarder. In my itty bitty purse I have a dozen shades of pink lipstick. 
It’s my go to color when I want to feel comfy. So, when I put on Funny Face its like when Superman puts on his cape. (Sorry for being corny) Not only does the lip color bring attention to my mouth, it makes people listen. When I smile with that color on my lips I find more people smiling back. There is something about positive attention to the lips bringing a positive result. If you have ever watched my Youtube channel then you also know that I finish EVERY design with Lipstick and glitter, WHY? because its my version of the icing on the cake with a pretty cherry on top. Lipstick is a super power that costs very little but can make a HUGE impact! Whenever I add lipstick on a little girl at the end of the design, their reaction is priceless. They always feel beautiful and royal. A good lipstick makes an adult feel the same way. Ask Kylie Jenner. She recently launched a line of lipsticks and sold 100,000+ lipstick kits in under 2 hours. All because women love the idea of their lips looking beautiful.
As I was writing this blog a dear friend called me to give me feedback about my class in Canada. She said out of every class she has ever taken I gave her some of the best advice. I was shocked when she told me that my advice about at least once a week putting on a new shade, a bright shade of lipstick and using it as your power. She said she took my advice and her pretty lipstick got a free car check and people smiled at her all day. When I rock my fancy lipstick people always stop and ask me “wow Heather where are you off to with those fancy lips!”
You don’t even have to take my word for it. The Huffington post, The Today Show and even Harvard all have 
covered topics such as How Lipstick Can improve your Day. While we wait around to win the lotto and be able to afford a personal chef, stylist, and MUA to take care of our daily needs, we also have to remind ourselves that little things count too. When you start adding little things like a pretty lipstick into your weekly routine or my new vice, weekly blow dry sessions you will see how adding all the little things into one can make a world of difference.
Whether you are trying to close a deal, get a certain wallet guys attention, or just need a quick pick me up try a new shade of lipstick and see what happens. The worst thing that could happen is that you dont like it and take it off. But I have a great feeling you are going to find your secret shade and love it!
Life will never be perfect, and everyday wont be a bad day, but you hold more tools than you think to create the life you want to live.
